A few words about this curious car,

The ‘Short Chassis Volante’ is something of a platypus within the Aston Martin lineup. It is the rarest Aston Martin convertible in the brand’s history, and, strangely enough, it does not bear the DB initials typical of the David Brown era. Instead, it debuts the name ‘Volante,’ which would later be adopted as the designation for the brand’s convertibles. A hybrid between the DB5—from which it borrows the short chassis and trunk—and the DB6—from which it takes the powertrain and front fascia. Since history would later use its name for subsequent models, what should we call this Volante? Well, like its chassis, it will be the ‘Short Chassis Volante’. Only 37 units were produced over a single year of production (1965).
