| Lagonda Series 2 and 3 1976. After the Lagonda Rapide, the DBS, and the Series 1, the fourth attempt would be the right one. And what an attempt it was! Aston Martin’s new owners wanted to make a big splash and offer something new, futuristic, and groundbreaking. And in these respects, the new Lagonda Series 2 would revolutionize the automotive world. First, its design by William Towns was a wedge-shaped masterpiece. While the Carabo and the Countach set the standard for this cubist style in sports cars, the Lagonda became the icon of four-door sedans. Next, on the technical front, Aston Martin would design an interior that was equally revolutionary for a production car, featuring fully digital instrumentation—perhaps even too ambitious for the technology of the time. Once on the road, the Lagonda would be the most incredible rolling UFO. And the most surprising thing about it all is that it would be a genuine success (643 ex). In 1985, the carburetor engine was replaced by the EFi fuel-injected V8, and the Lagonda consequently became the Series 3. It is recognizable externally by a Lagonda badge on the C-pillar, affixed to the gas cap. |
